Helena's career has seen her strut down catwalks around the world and pose in her underwear, but she also said she was a very shy child.
She revealed how it was down to her mother that she became the more confident woman she is today after she sent her to acting classes to 'learn how to express myself more', she told The Sunday Times.
From then on, she did child modelling and was crowned Miss Denmark as a teenager before becoming an icon of the fashion world, heralding the era of the supermodel along with the likes of Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista.
